Following the harrowing events that brought them to Landale Forest, Jace and Kyrin have settled comfortably into their new lives and the mission of protecting those under the emperor's persecution. The fast approach of winter brings with it the anticipation of a quiet few months ahead. That is until the arrival of four mysterious, dragon-riding cretes who seek aid in a mission of great importance--not only to their own people, but to all followers of Elôm.

Hidden in the vast mining valley north of Valcré, a faithful crete has spent years sharing his knowledge with the destitute miners and their families and is known to possess what may be Arcacia's last surviving copies of the King's Scrolls--the Word of Elôm. Joining the cretes, those in Landale must find the crete teacher and bring him to safety, but it is a race against time. Should Daican's men find him first, execution and the destruction of the Scrolls is certain.

When disaster strikes, all seems lost. Could Elôm have a plan even in the enemy's triumph?

Where to begin?
This book is the sequel to Resistance (check it out now if you haven't already). While I don't know if it surpasses its prequel, The King's Scrolls certainly comes close. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Basically the main characters must find a religious teacher and the last remaining copy of the King's Scrolls (Scripture) before the evil Emperor does. And this turns out to be as complicated as we might expect. There are gut wrenching twists and heart wrenching turns. Old characters are brought back and we are introduced to some wonderful new characters that I can't wait to see more of. There are also dragons!!
Set against a backdrop reminiscent of the early Christian persecutions where believers of King Elom must be prepared to declare their faith in a time when such faith means certain death, Knight again quietly challenges readers to think about their own faith and how they might react in those very situations. Even in the bleakest moments the characters' faith in God weaves threads of hope through the story. Amazing Christian fantasy! Highly recommended!

The author gave me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'm actually completely biased because I love this series so much and cannot wait to have the rest of the Ilyon Chronicles on my bookshelf.

If you dislike fantasy, this book is not for you.
If you dislike complex books that race you through unexpected plot twists and exciting adventures, this book is not for you.
If you dislike The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien, this book is not for you.
If you (for some strange reason) dislike dragons, scrolls, realistic unreality, and dangerous risks of believers determined to follow the one true God, this book is not for you.
However, if you happen to like any (or all) of the above, READ THIS BOOK.
The King’s Scrolls by Jaye L. Knight, sequel to Resistance and second installment in The Ilyon Chronicles, is an incredible tale of bravery, faith, and the ongoing battles between good and evil in another world.
Personally, I was expecting something epic when I got this book, because I’d read the first book and had gotten several spoilers from some friends. I was not prepared for how epic it would actually be. There were dragons. There were scrolls. There were highly realistic characters, all of whom had their own struggles and fights as the story progressed. There were breathtaking moments where I certainly was not expecting the events that appeared. And behind it all, there was a theme of the light versus dark imagery that was clearly illustrated in the people and places described. Overall, it was an amazing tale that carefully balanced the fantasy realm and the truth so that it felt real. Jaye L. Knight is a genius.
Highly recommended for everyone!

The King's Scrolls is a story with emotional depth, subtlety, and a sense of history. The new characters and cultures are interesting, and I'm looking forward to learning about more in the sequels.

I can especially empathize with the older siblings, Marcus and Liam. Though their struggles are different, the theme of duty, love, and devotion plays out well with them.

Again, I was very impressed by the quality of writing. I can tell that the personalities, scenes, and themes were well thought out, and that the proofing and editing of the text were taken seriously. It is refreshing to read from authors like Ms. Knight. I have my finger on the purchase button for book three already!
I've looked at other reviews, and noticed how a lot of them said it was a "roller coaster" of emotions. After reading this book, I see what they meant! ) (I'm not a big fan of roller coasters, but this one, I'll ride it again.)

In some parts, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse... IT GOT WORSE... and then it got better! I sighed, I laughed, I nearly cried, I gasped, I cheered, and at the end, I sighed with relief! I love this book!

To be honest, the one part that soften my heart was the verse of the Scrolls "... For as the heavens are higher than earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and your thoughts higher than your thoughts." What a profound truth, and in my opinion, this ought to be the main theme of the story. God doesn't think as we do... He's GOD!

Congratulations, Jaye, for making another award-winning Christian Fantasy book worth reading! You continue to inspire me and to write for the glory of God (or Elom)
Absolutely amazing, just like book one!

For some reason this felt a bit shorter than Resistance, but maybe I just read it faster. The characters were just as wonderful, and although there were times I felt like we just...forgot about a few of the minor characters, it was understandable and honestly I didn't usually mind too much even when I did notice.

And what of the plot? Well, the idea of searching for the last scrolls of Elom's word was interesting and fit well with the story begun in Resistance. But the plot/character development of Kaden and Kyrin's family was my favorite. (And, um...the most painful! Just a warning!) I loved watching Marcus and Liam grow and change in this book, and though it was a difficult path, I'm pleased with how it ended up and excited to see how things carry on from here.

Overall, I loved this book. The Ilyon Chronicles is quickly earning its place among my favorites.
