This was a good quick M/M romance. Police detective Mike meets artist Liam when he stumbles across Liam being assaulted in an alley. Their is an instant attraction between the 2 and they both have personal issues to overcome (trust, self-worth, and secrets). 1star off because I wish it was longer and I wish we got more closure about Liam's art. Plus I just know Grace (favorite side character for me) and Elena were going to hook up!Highly recommend this one!

Romantic , heart breaking story how two people from different walks of life come together to make a commitment to each other. A good read.
Loved this book! Not usually my genre, but really got into this. Loved that there was the romance and mystery together. Was a fast read, I couldn't wait to get to the end, and then I wanted more. I really liked both Mike and Liam -- well-developed characters that I was really rooting for. The other characters were great too -- I really hope there are more books so that I can see what happens to all of them. The dialogue was perfect, really realistic. And I can't forget to mention the sex was hot! I'm not always a dom/sub person, but this perfect. Tame, but not too tame. I wouldn't mind having these guys tie me up! I hope there is another book to follow up this one. I would love more Mike and Liam in my life
I hardly ever review MM romances, and I'm only just over a third of the way through this story -- BUT, I caught myself arguing, out loud, with the main character, and realized that I had to give this book major props. Spencer Spears, you absolutely drew me into a story. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the many books you've written, but here I am actually arguing out loud with a character. I'm surprised and, well, surprised.
****Spoiler Mike hasn't cottoned on to the role Liam could/does already, play in his life.
Finished the book. It really was quite good, but...not quite as enthused.
I love Spencer Spears colorful characters. Eight months ago, Detective Mike, 31, lost his work partner/lover in an ambush. Mike's been lost ever since, struggling to survive. Walking home, he heard shouts for help, and stepped into the alley. Liam looked up from the ground to see the tall black man in a suit getting involved. Mike flashed his badge and rescued blue-eyed Liam, took him home with him, and cared for him. They got along so well, and artist, Liam felt safe, as Mike felt peace. Liam has been dumped enough in his 23 years; this time by his verbally abusive ex who threw him out. He's had rough times ever since, bur he still teaches art to kids at the Community Center. Mike's squad has been tasked with stopping the flow of a new dangerous drug on the streets.
We see Mike and Liam get closer, helping each other, while they each have turmoil about asking the other for more. We see light BDSM, as Mike is a Dom, and Liam a natural submissive, who doesn't understand it. They fit together perfectly, deeply, in many ways, but also in their sexy times.
Liam misunderstands his Dom's needs and his own, but they finally get to sort out their differences, explain themselves more, and we see progress.
This is a quick short story, with a feel of a full novel. Great writing, marvelous characters, and you'll be happy for reading this. There is a free bonus chapter also. ENJOY !
I like this author - the characters work, and I found myself drawn in by the mystery, which is often not the case (although I saw it coming a mile off, I thought it was well-plotted. Probably just needed to find a more subtle way to lay the groundwork for the "reveal" without telegraphing quite so clearly what was going on). I think Spears has the ability to evolve in this genre, provided she learns to create more jeopardy within the story (I didn't blink once worrying about what would happen to the MCs). Personally, I would like some edgier sexuality to fit the characters, but that's my taste. I'm not a huge fan of vanilla relations between damaged characters who talk out their angst rather than act it out (and I feel there's TONS of that already out there). I would be disappointed if she went for the angst-filled romance market rather than the sexy thriller audience. But I'll keep checking out her work.
I liked this story, it was well written, with a good story line. I loved the characters, they were strong with good backgrounds, we knew what made them the men they were in the story.
I kept watching those two boys trip over not wanting to make mistakes! They need to be sure and thank the women in their lives! I loved the extra chapter! I would have liked just a little bit more on the drug crime, but overall a nice read.
